Together for Sudan values education and literacy very highly. Many of our university scholars become teachers or work in the field of education. Literacy at all ages is a key life skill and and basic requirement that is often sought out keenly by Sudanese women who have never had the opportunity of schooling.
Below are messages of thanks from some of our good friends and partners that
we work hard with to deliver basic education and literacy in the Nuba Mountain
area, through our Kadugli based aid workers. Your support to keep these projects open is vital.

Magbola Suliman Alehideb, Assistant Director, Preschool Department, Ministry of Education, Kadugli, the Nuba Mountains.
Basically we would like to extend
our gratitude and thanks to Together for Sudan for their generous support in the
areas of teacher training, teacher incentives (small stipends for trained
teachers), and other educational support.
The advantage of the trainings offered by TfS is indisputable because it helps
pre-school teachers acquire experience and teaching skill which relates to
teaching competence as well as to learning how to create teaching aids from
local materials. All this has helped greatly, including by sharing the learning
information with other teachers.
We hope that Together for Sudan will continue its encouragement and support to
kindergartens in South Kordofan and we send appreciation to TfS Kadugli office
for its coordination of the work and collaboration with the Ministry of
Education in Kadugli.
Yohana Koshadi Samaan, Director Saraf Al Jamous Development Organization, Kadugli and SPLM Representative in the Saraf Al Jamous area.
I wish to convey my thanks to Dr.
Lillian Craig Harris, TfS Director and to the TfS Trustees for the role they
played in establishing TfS, an organization which has been a great educational
support to the Nuba Mountains. Large numbers of teachers and students have
benefitted from TfS projects in the Nuba Mountains, both through education and
educational support projects. Teacher training education, capacity building and
skills development are all appreciated by the trainees and the learners.
The Nuba Mountains communities have been amazed by TfS activities including
solar lighting panels for schools and clinics and the training of community
leaders which created a high awareness among the marginalized and impoverished
people, thus helping them to build a pacific coexistence. We call upon all
charitable, beneficent and generous donors to continue supporting TfS to fulfill
its mandate and commitment and we strongly appeal to the TfS Trustees to
preserve and increase the important work of Kadugli office. God bless you all.
Mubark Agbash, Literacy Class Teacher at Dar Almomenat, Umbattah, Kadugli.
First of all my best gratitude to
TfS for what they have offered to Nuba communities in the education spheres. In
particular I am indebted to them for the chances provided in the teacher
training workshop in which I benefitted and gained new skills in teaching and
facilitating adult education. In this regard I also thank TfS for the incentives
(small stipends) they used to provide to support us. This really helped me in
managing my daily living. As for the learners, we teachers do shift them from
the darkness of illiteracy to the light of knowledge and that is clear in the
ability of some of them to continue their education and also in their dealings
with their families and communities. Thank you!

Jamal Ismail Aburas,Literacy Class Teacher at Umbattah Wasat in Kadugli South.
I would like to start with the
activities of TfS in the Nuba Mountains after the implementation of the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement ( January 2005). Actually the organization had a
great role in education, particularly of women and in educational support
activities such as the Solar Lighting project and distribution of reading
glasses – all of which are indicators of the organization’s success and
popularity. I would like to sincerely thank TfS for their participations and
contributions in promoting the quality of education in the Nuba Mountains.
Most of the Nubian women are vulnerable and ignorant due to many years of civil
war and conflict and are in need of recovery and that will be through illiteracy
elimination and acquiring of knowledge to development themselves. For sure it is
the society’s demand and aspiration. As for me, I am really glad to say that I
have developed my professional skills through the training I received from TfS
which has helped me so much to upgrade my performance and how best to deal with
adult learners. In this regard, I can say that TfS has fulfilled its motto:
“Power to the Powerless through Education”.
A lot of thanks and appreciations to TfS Trustees, staff and donors for their
great support and contributions to human development.
Kaltoum Abdalgader Mohamed, Kindergarten teacher. Alamal Class in Umbattah, Kadugli.
Kaltoum passed on 30 graduates to basic school in 2009.
On behalf of my colleagues I seize
this wonderful opportunity to extend our profound gratitude and thanks to TfS
for their support to kindergartens in South Kordofan, particularly teachers
training in which we gained much experience and practice. We hope the incentives
support will continue so as to help us until we can stand on our feet. Thanks
for all.
I add the challenges which we teachers face in the Nuba Mountains:
*Poor support from the Ministry of Education (which has little funding).
*Creation of awareness among the communities about the importance of education.
*Lack of teaching and learning aids materials.
*And now concerns about the continuation of support from TfS.
Gadda Yousif Fadal, who has passed on 27 graduates to basic schools in 2009 adds, We are depending
fully on Together for Sudan and send thanks for their contribution and support.
Hudda Hassan Altaib, who has passed on 25 graduates to basic school this year adds, We send many thanks
and appreciations to TfS.
Mohamed Basher,Preschool Director, Ministry of Education, Kadugli, South Kordofan State.
As is well known, the quality and
capacity of teachers lies at the heart of any education system. In this regard,
I would like to thank Together for Sudan for its role and activities in the
recent past. TfS has given priority to human resources development through
training workshops as an entry point to upgrading pre-school and basic education
and we are highly appreciating this endeavor and hope it will continue. On
behalf of the Ministry of Education we wish to express our gratitude to our
partners in all education sectors and especially to TfS staff and donors and we
hope to be in their good repute. Thank you.

Ahmed Mamoun Attia, Schools Supervisor, Regional Education Office, New Sudan Education System, Coordination Office, Ministry of Education, Kadugli.
According to the Comprehensive Peace
Agreement, two systems of education exist in the state – one using English as a
medium of instruction and the other using Arabic. Clearly the years of war have
damaged the quality of education and that of teacher education in particular. In
this regard many educational challenges have been created which call for
concerted effort by the development partners of which TfS is one. We are
indebted to TfS for great support in the field of teacher training and education
support and further appreciate the pre-school, literacy classes and solar
lighting systems projects which you have offered. But we are still in need of
more support. God bless you.
